Bundesliga club reportedly monitoring Feyenoord defensive target

FC Koln are reportedly interested in Feyenoord target Rav van den Berg. The Middlesbrough defender was recently close to a transfer to Rotterdam, although things have remained quiet in recent days following the signing of Tsuyoshi Watanabe. The Germans may want to capitalise on this.

โ€œThere is continued uncertainty surrounding the future of Middlesbrough defender Van den Berg,โ€ reports The Northern Echo. โ€œHe is attracting interest from Feyenoord and German side FC Koln.โ€

The British outlet point to Feyenoordโ€™s previous attempts to lure the 21-year-old former PEC Zwolle player.

โ€œMiddlesbrough have rejected two bids from Feyenoord and havenโ€™t yet reached an agreement with Cologne, but interest from Europe seems to be increasing.โ€ Van den Berg was recently absent from Middlesbroughโ€™s squad for the friendly against Rangers after โ€œhe sustained a back injury during the warm-up.โ€

Feyenoord identified Van den Berg as a defensive reinforcement in light of David Hanckoโ€™s departure and Thomas Beelenโ€™s serious injury, but has reportedly put the deal on hold. It is unclear whether Van den Berg will still make a transfer to Rotterdam in the coming weeks. Tsuyoshi Watanabe has already done so. The Japanese player joined from KAA Gent.
