Brighton reach agreement in principle with Ajax to sign Mohammed Kudus for €40m

According to David Ornstein, Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement in principle with Ajax to sign their talented midfielder Mohammed Kudus. The Seagulls are set to pay €40m for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder, which would be their club record signing. The Ghana international is close to an agreement on personal terms.

Last season Mohammed Kudus scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances. The former Nordsjaelland talent was one of Ajax’s stand-out stars last season as the Dutch giants finished third in the Eredivisie. Kudus is under contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena until 2025 but he rejected a new deal in April. The versatile midfielder has been a top target for Roberto De Zerbi for months now, and finally, the club are close to sealing the signing.

Brighton spent €30m on former Watford striker Joao Pedro at the start of the transfer window. The Brazilian became the club’s record signing and already they’re set to surpass that sum. €40m for Mohammed Kudus could turn out to be brilliant business from Brighton, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season.
