Brighton midfielder returns to Belgium on loan

Standard Liege have announced that Steven Alzate has returned for another season on loan at the club. The 24-year-old Colombian midfielder is once again joining the side from Premier League Brighton, with a purchase option not having been included in the deal. Last season, Alzate made 29 appearances for Standard, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

The Colombian has had limited playing time in England, with the midfielder making just nine Premier League appearances during the 2021/2022 season. He had yet to make any appearances for the side this season, with Standard having been pursuing a deal to bring him back to Liege all summer. Alzate was a key part of the side that over performed during the 2022/2023 season under Rony Deila.

Pressure has been on the 777 ownership to improve the squad after a winless start to the season. On deadline day, the side have also added Kamal Sowah from Club Brugge on loan with a purchase option. He joins Moussa Djenepo who returned from Southampton. Isaac Hayden also joined on loan from Newcastle United.
