Brighton looking to sign Calvin Bassey from Ajax along with Mohammed Kudus

Brighton & Hove Albion are showing serious interest in Ajax’s Calvin Bassey as well as Mohammed Kudus, according to Voetbal International. The Seagulls were interested in Bassey last summer, but the Nigerian international opted for a move to Amsterdam. The 22-year-old defender failed to impress during his first season at Ajax. Despite this, the player is high on Roberto De Zerbi’s list of transfer targets.

Bassey featured 25 times in the Eredivisie last season as Ajax finished in third place. For the first time since 2009, the Dutch giants failed to finish in a Champions League qualification place. Calvin Bassey scored one goal and provided three assists. The defender can play as a left-back or as a centre-back. He joined Ajax from Rangers last summer for €23m.

Brighton, who finished in sixth place last season in the Premier League, are also looking to sign Mohammed Kudus. The Ghanaian attacking midfielder is currently valued at £40m after a super season. The 22-year-old scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances. On Monday Brighton completed the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.
