Brighton leading the race to sign Bart Verbruggen over Burnley and Manchester United

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Brighton are set to beat Burnley to the signing of Bart Verbruggen. Former Anderlecht head coach Vincent Kompany had wanted Verbruggen last summer, but was rejected. They came in again this summer to try and sign the talented goalkeeper, but their offer was considered too low. Brighton now appear to have outbid their fellow Premier League side.

After Verbruggen took the number one spot from Hendrik Van Crombrugge, he made a string of impressive performances that has seen his stock rise dramatically. After his heroics against Ludogorets in a penalty shoot out during the Europa Conference League, many began to take notice of Verbruggen. Anderlecht are happy to keep the goalkeeper for an extra season, but are also not adverse to cashing in during the summer to fund other transfer targets. Van Crombrugge is still at the club and should Verbruggen depart is likely to return to the starting line up.
