Brian Riemer compares Cercle Brugge to Marco Bielsa’s Leeds United

Speaking ahead of Anderlecht’s clash with Cercle Brugge this weekend, the Mauves head coach has been full of praise for the opposition. As reported by Voetbalkrant, the former Brentford assistant said he see’s similarities in how Cercle play with what he faced in the Premier League when Leeds United were managed by Marco Bielsa. Riemer compared the way Cercle like to press and disrupt other sides games to the way Leeds operated, saying that you have to take into account how they play when training before the game.

Both sides have had strong starts to the season, with Anderlecht in second place with 24 points from their opening 12 games. Cercle are just three points behind them in fourth place. Miron Muslic’s side have not drawn a single game this season, with seven wins and five defeats in their 12. They also have the league’s top scorer in their ranks, with Togolese international Kevin Denkey leading the way on 10 goals from 12 games.

Last season the sides split their two fixtures, with both sides winning at home.
