Brian Brobbey wanted to accept Van Basten’s help: ‘But Marco didn’t feel like it’ claims Van ‘t Schip

Marco Van Basten indicated last week that Brian Brobbey didn’t want his help to overcome poor form in front of goal for Ajax. However, this week, then-manager of the capital city club John van ‘t Schip revealed that this wasn’t necessarily the case on Dutch talk show ‘Rondo’.

The Ajax attacker is regularly criticized by one of his more illustrious predecessors, but Van ‘t Schip claims that it did not lead to a meeting:

“I took over (at Ajax) and then Marco already had constructive criticism”, said Van ‘t Schip. “Then I asked Brian if he wanted to talk to Marco. He did.”

After that, Van ‘t Schip contacted Van Basten. “But he texted me: No, I don’t feel like it. That’s how it went. Four or five weeks later, he wanted to talk to Brian, but he had to do it in his building, in the basement. Then I thought: this is not really an invitation for Brian to sit there quietly. Then I said that it wasn’t necessary.”

Van Basten confirmed Van ‘t Schip’s version and explained why he didn’t immediately accept. “Time. I offered it, but under my conditions.”
