Brian Brobbey responds to Ronald Koeman’s harsh comments on the striker

Earlier this week Netherlands national team coach Ronald Koeman said he was shocked by the level that Brian Brobbey had showed in the previous international period with the Oranje team, expressing his surprise at the strikers finishing abilities.

In Wednesday’s Europa League press conference leading up to Ajax’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion the following day, Brobbey responded to the comments made by Koeman. Brobbey said: ‘I am still a young player, 21 years old. I still have a lot of areas for improvement and that is trainable. There are always people who say something about me, but I have no influence on that.’

The Ajax coach John van ‘t Schip was also asked about Koeman’s statements about Brobbey, to which the coach responded in a positive manner towards his striker: ‘I am very positive about Brian, when I see what he brings to our team’. Ajax’s new manager went onto comment on Brobbey’s ability to continually improve, noting that ‘He is a strong point of play and has depth in his game. But Brian can certainly make steps. He is already a good striker, but can become an even better one.’

It is likely that these comments from his manager will help Brobbey to gain the confidence he needs to improve his game week by week. The striker will be hoping that he can make a difference in the Amsterdammers upcoming games before the international break.
