Brian Brobbey closing in on best Ajax individual goalscoring season since Dusan Tadic

Despite his sides struggles this season, Brian Brobbey has been in fine form for Ajax. The 22-year-old Dutch forward has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 24 Eredivisie matches. He has already surpassed the 13 goals he scored last season with games to spare. Furthermore, he is closing in on having the most goals by an Ajax player since the 2018/2019 season.

He would have to go some to match the 28 scored by Dusan Tadic back in the 2018/2019 season, but he could certainly surpass the 21 goals that Sebastian Haller scored in the 2021/2022 campaign. It took Haller 31 games to get that number at an average of 0.68 per game. Brobbey is already averaging 0.67 per game this season, so should be close come the end of the season.

In terms of the run-in to the end of the Eredivisie campaign, Ajax only played two of the sides above them. Feyenoord and FC Twente are their opponents in the penultimate two weekends, with lowly Excelsior their final fixture on the last day of the season. While Ajax have not been at their best this campaign, the remaining fixtures should give Brobbey a fighting chance of getting the six goals he needs to beat Haller’s recent number.
