According to Fabrizio Romano, Brentford are closing in on a deal to sign Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. Several Premier League sides have been monitoring the 20-year-old Belgium international this summer, but Brentford have made their move, submitting a bid worth €40m including add-ons. A sell-on clause for PSV has also been included in the proposal.
Last Friday, Burnley made a move for the 20-year-old Belgium international, submitting a €20m offer. That was almost immediately rejected by the Eredivisie club. Brentford have come in with a much higher offer, and seeing as though PSV are yet to make a substantial sale this summer, a move looks likely.
Johan Bakayoko featured 39 times in all competitions last season as PSV finished second in the Eredivisie and lifted the KNVB Cup. The academy graduate scored nine goals and provided six assists. Already, Bakayoko has kicked off the new campaign in superb style. The four-time Belgium international has provided four assists within his side’s first five games in all competitions. This could be an excellent bit of business from Brentford, who have kicked off the new Premier League season with one win and two draws in their first three games.
