HLN are reporting that Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach are showing interest in Gent top scorer Hugo Cuypers. Former Olympiakos and Mechelen striker joined the Buffaloes in the summer for around €4.00m and has gone on to score 16 league goals in 29 games. The 26-year-old has also netted four times in the UEFA Conference League, including one during the sides 4-1 win away in Istanbul.
Cuypers is under contract with Gent until 2026, and with interest already growing in Nigerian sensation Gift Orban, it is unlikely the club would be willing to part with both players this summer. For Gladbach, the side are currently 10th in the Bundesliga and are likely to lose their top scorer Marcus Thuram in the summer. The French international has scored 12 goals this season, the only player in double figures for the club.
Cuypers had been hoping that his form, and status as the top scoring Belgian in the domestic league, would be enough to earn a call-up to Domenico Tedesco’s first squad. However, Cuypers was not selected.
