Borussia Dortmund showing serious interest in Chelsea’s Dutch defender Ian Maatsen

According to Voetbal International, Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a January move for Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen. The German giants are looking to strengthen in defence after a recent drop in form. Maatsen is a top target, but a move could be difficult.

Ian Maatsen has featured 12 times in the Premier League so far this season, starting just one of those games. The Dutch youth international is reportedly keen on the move to Dortmund, but the two sides will have to work on a suitable price tag for the 21-year-old. Dortmund and Chelsea are currently in talks over a possible transfer, but it’s not yet clear whether it would be a loan or a permanent move.

Maatsen, who kicked off his career in PSV’s youth academy, spent last season on loan at Burnley, where he helped to propel Vincent Kompany’s side back up to the Premier League. The youngster’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025 and Transfermarkt value him at €20m. If Ian Maatsen makes the move to Borussia Dortmund, he’d link up with fellow Dutchmen Donyell Malen, Julian Rijkhoff and Prince Aning.
