Borussia Dortmund are getting closer to completing the signing of Edson Álvarez from Ajax, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Bundesliga club are approaching a full agreement with Álvarez on personal terms. The Mexican midfielders contract will be valid until 2028. The deal is expected to be done within the next week.
Álvarez can play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back. Last season the 25-year-old featured 44 times in all competitions for Ajax, who finished the Eredivisie campaign in third place. Álvarez joined the Dutch giants from Club América in the summer of 2019. He’s been one of their standout players ever since he joined.
Ajax have been demanding £45m for Edson Álvarez. After selling Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for nearly £90m, the Bundesliga club certainly have the money to spend. Edson Álvarez is an excellent, versatile player, who’s physical presence will stand out in the Bundesliga. This could turn out to be brilliant business for Borussia Dortmund.
