Blow for Zulte Waregem as Alessandro Ciranni suffers quad injury

Zulte Waregem have announced that defender Alessandro Ciranni has suffered a quadricep injury. The club have not disclosed how long they expect the player to be out for, but it could be the end of the defenders season. The former Mouscron man has made 32 appearances for the relegation threatened side this season, scoring once and providing three assists. His only goal came in a crucial game against rivals Kortrijk, with the game ending 3-3. Shoudl the side get relegated, Ciranni may be a player of interest to a number of other Pro League sides.

This will be a blow for new head coach Frederik D’Hollander, who took over from the sacked Mbaye Leye. Former Standard Liege head coach Leye took over the club in the summer with hopes of avoiding relegation. Unfortunately, the side are currently second bottom in the league with just 23 points from their 29 games. They are four points off of safety.

D’Hollander has just five games left of the season to turn things around, starting with an away trip to Standard Liege at the weekend. The former Zulte Waregem player has been in charge of the second team this season.
