Blow for KV Mechelen as former Birmingham City midfielder suffers bruised lung in win over Kortrijk

KV Mechelen have revealed that midfielder Kerim Mrabti has suffered a bruised lung after colliding with Kortrijk goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson at the weekend. Both players had to leave the match shortly after, with fears that the Swedish midfielder had suffered a broken rib. Thankfully, further examinations revealed that Mrabti only suffered a bruised lung.

Former Birmingham City midfielder Mrabti joined Mechelen back in the summer of 2020. He has gone on to make 146 appearances for the side, scoring 32 goals. His best season came in 2021/2022 when he scored 10 goals and grabbed six assists. He almost matched this last season with nine goals and seven assists. At time, the midfielder has suffered wit injuries, with the 2022/2023 season being particularly curtailed by a bad one.

Mechelen have had a great opening 11 games of the season, sitting in firth place with five wins, two draws and four defeats.
