Gentโs victory over Westerlo was overshadowed by the news that Matisse Samoise will be out for the season. The 24-year-old full-back/midfielder suffered a anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee and will be out for a number of months. It is a real blow for both the player and the club. Samoise looked to have kicked on this season but will now face nine months on the sideline. Samoise joins Mathias Delorge on the injury list, with the midfielder having been sidelines for three months.
Samoise has played 20 games in all competitions for Gent, with three goals and three assists. This has been a vast improvement on last season for Samoise, who played 43 games without scoring a single goal, although he did contribute three assists. Samoise broke through as a teenager at Gent in 2020/2021 and has gone on to play 219 games for the club, scoring 16 goals. The former Belgian U21 representative had his best season in terms of goals in 2023/2024 when he scored seven. His best season in terms of assists came during the 2021/2022 season where he provided six in 45 games.
