During his pre-match press conference for the weekends clash with Club Brugge, Anderlecht head coach Besnik Hasi was asked about his future at the club. The former KV Mechelen man returned to Anderlecht for a second spell in charge after being sacked by Malinwa earlier in the season. Hasi was given the job until the end of the season, but now he has revealed that he wants to be in Brussels for the 2025/2026 campaign.
As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Hasi said ‘I want to stay here. Always. Look, Anderlecht is going through a transition’. For Anderlecht fans, the word transition has been used far too often in recent seasons for their liking. Once a side that competed for titles, the closest they have come was last season under Brian Riemer. However, they fell short in the play-offs and a poor start to this season saw Riemer sacked. His replacement was David Hubert, promoted from the youth team and for many never a long-term prospect.
Fans may well want the side to be more ambitious than keeping Hasi in post. He has done well against Gent and Antwerp, the two weaker sides in the play-offs, while not being able to beat the top three. If they can beat Club Brugge this weekend, they may well be handing the title to their city rivals Union St Gilloise. Should Union beat Antwerp on Saturday evening and Club lose to Anderlecht, the title will go to Union.
