Bernd Hollerbach hopes friendly victory over RKC Waalwijk is a sign of things to come

Speaking to Het Neiuwsblad following his sides 3-0 friendly win over RKC Waalwijk, Sint-Truiden manager Bernd Hollerbach was upbeat about their chances of a successful second half to the season. Goals from Mory Konate, Daichi Hayashi and Shinji Okazaki were enough for the Limburg side to record a victory over Waalwijk.

Hollerbach said “I already saw in training that the players are sharp and ready to fly again. This was a good test, even though the opponent didn’t seem that strong”. Under the German manager the side narrowly missed out on the play-offs in 2021-2022, with the side performing better than in previous relegation battling seasons. Hollerbach’s success has come off the back of a strong defence, with the side having only conceded 19 goals in 17 games. They sit just below Genk (15) and Antwerp (17) in terms of goals conceded.

The Canaries have a tricky first fixture following the World Cup break, with a trip to Club Brugge in the cup. Their first league game will be just after Christmas, with a home tie against relegation threatened Zulte Waregem. The side in third bottom ahve recently had Nil De Pauw on trial ahead of the January transfer window.
