Benfica’s Jan Vertonghen arrives in Brussels to complete Anderlecht move

Benfica’s Jan Vertonghen has arrived in Brussels to sign for Anderlecht.

With Roger Schmidt dropping him from the starting XI at Benfica, Vertonghen has been looking to move clubs to ensure he gets playing time ahead of the World Cup.

English and Belgian clubs were interested in him, including Club Brugge, but it is now all but certain that Anderlecht have secured the services of the Belgium international.

Het Nieuwsblad journalist David van de Broeck tweeted a video taken by a colleague of Vertonghen arriving in Brussels, confirming he’s set to sign for the Pro League side.

“Will everything come around today? We’ll see, but at least that’s the intention,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws at the airport.

“We’re going to see if it works out. Anderlecht stepped in at the right time. The possibility was never really there, both from my side and from the side of Benfica, but it is there now.”
