Benfica close to completing the €30m signing of Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökçü

De Telegraaf are reporting that Orkun Kökçü’s move to Benfica from Feyenoord is almost complete. The Portuguese champions are set to spend over €30m on the Turkish midfielder, but a resale percentage and bonuses could see the final sum exceed €40m. A Portuguese delegation is currently in the Netherlands doing the final talks with Feyenoord before the move goes ahead.

Kökçü would become Feyenoord’s record sale. The record is currently held by Luis Sinisterra who joined Leeds for €25m. Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt is said to be a huge fan of Orkun Kökçü, who has just won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. Schmidt wants to continue building his Benfica squad after guiding the club to their 38th Portuguese title.

Benfica have continuously been searching for the perfect player to replace Enzo Fernández. The Argentine midfielder joined Chelsea in January for a British-record fee of approximately £106.8m. Benfica want to get the Kökçü deal done as quickly as possible, seeing as he’s also attracted interest from Premier League teams. A €120m release clause is also set to be added to the attacking midfielders contract.
