AZ not thinking about title chances yet

Despite sitting top of the Eredivisie with seven wins and two draws from nine matches, AZ aren’t thinking about their title chances yet.

AZ have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far, sitting a point ahead of Ajax at the top of the table after beating the Amsterdam side 2-1.

With Alfred Schreuder and Ruud van Nistelrooy struggling at times at Ajax and PSV respectively since taking over in the summer, many feel Pascal Jansen’s team can challenge for the title.

However, the manager isn’t thinking about that yet and doesn’t want his players to either.

“We just have to continue calmly and continue to do our thing,” he said after their win away to Utrecht at the weekend.

Clasie, one of their key players so far, agrees with his boss, saying it’s too early to think about becoming champions.

“You [the media] can say or write what you want,” he stated.

“We will continue to do our thing and work hard. Only nine games have been played, this is only the beginning.”
