AZ Alkmaar suffer huge blow as Dani de Wit departs for Bundesliga side VfL Bochum

Dani de Wit has officially left AZ Alkmaar for a new challenge in Germany. The 26-year-old versatile midfielder has joined Bundesliga outfit VfL Bochum following the expiry of his contract at the AFAS Stadion. De Wit has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Bochum, valid until the summer of 2028.

AZ Alkmaar have lost a crucial player. Dani de Wit has spent the last five years at the club, making 188 appearances. The attacking midfielder joined AZ from Ajax in 2019 and his since scored 46 times and provided 21 assists. Now, he’ll play in the Bundesliga for a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season. A disappointing campaign saw Bochum finish 16th, in the relegation play-off spot. However, a penalty shootout victory over Düsseldorf kept them in the top flight. Dani de Wit will certainly be hoping for a better campaign next season.

A huge hole has been left in AZ Alkmaar’s midfield. De Wit’s departure on a free transfer means the club will not receive a transfer fee and will therefore have some work do ahead of the new season.
