Aston Villa join RB Leipzig in monitoring Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida

According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are the latest side to register an interest in Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida. Unai Emery’s side have shortlisted the 24-year-old with the view of potentially making a move this summer. RB Leipzig submitted a number of bids for Geertruida last summer but the Rotterdam club were able to keep hold of their exciting academy product.

Lutsharel Geertruida was a pivotal player during the Arne Slot era at Feyenoord. During their 2022/23 title triumph the 11-time Netherlands international featured 30 time in the Eredivisie as they comfortably claimed top spot, conceding just 30 goals in the process. Last season he featured 47 times, with six of those appearances coming in the Champions League.

Geertruida predominately plays as a right-back but has spent much of his time at the club playing at centre-back. With one-year remaining on his current contract, this could be an excellent pick-up for Aston Villa. Feyenoord will be reluctant to sell their main man, but after seven successful seasons in Rotterdam, now could be the perfect time for him to make a move.
