Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema returns to the Netherlands national team following 10 months out due to injury

Vivianne Miedema has been called up to the Netherlands Women’s national team for the first time since September 2022. The 27-year-old striker is expected to return to action soon following a serious knee injury that has kept her out of action for 10 months. The Netherlands women take on Scotland twice this month in the UEFA Nations League.

Miedema tore her anterior cruciate ligament in December during a Champions League match against Lyon. This meant the Arsenal striker had to miss out on the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, among other matches for her country. A return is on the horizon for Vivianne Miedema, who is yet to feature for Arsenal in 2023 due to her injury.

‘I spoke with Vivianne and Arsenal and looked at the possibilities,’ says national team coach Andries Jonker. ‘Vivianne trains with the group at Arsenal and she can also train with us. If that goes well, it is possible that I will use her in the matches against Scotland.’ The Netherlands women play Scotland on October 27th, with the return fixture taking place at Hampden Park four days later.
