Arsenal remain interested in young Ajax talent despite recent contract extension

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Arsenal remain interested in young Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. The young talent recently signed a new contract with the Amsterdam club that will run until 2028, although it is likely that he will have moved on by then. Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the teenager a number of times this season.

The 18-year-old has played 32 games in the Eredivisie this season, scoring once and providing two assists. He has also made a number of appearances in Europe in what has been a real breakout year for the young defender. Hato is versatile, able to operate as a central defender or at left-back if required.

Transfermarkt currently values Hato at around €22m, although it is likely that Ajax will ask for a lot more than that. Given that the contract was extended until 2028, Ajax now have far more leverage in negotiations with other clubs. The club also signed the defender’s 13-year-old brother from Sparta Rotterdam.
