Arsenal midfielder reveals he could have joined Burnley over Luton Town in the summer

In an interview with Gazet Van Antwerpen, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga revealed that he had the option of joining Burnley in the summer. The 24-year-old, who is currently on loan at Luton Town, said that there was the option to link up with former Anderlecht head coach Vincent Kompany during the summer transfer window. However, the midfielder asked for time after a disappointing period with Crystal Palace. The offer of a permanent switch did not entice Lokonga, as he has not wanted to give up on chances of breaking through at Arsenal.

So far this season Lokonga has only managed to make two appearances for Luton, with an injury suffered in September having kept him on the sidelines. He is hoping to return in the near future and play enough to try and force his way into Belgium’s EURO 2024 squad for next summer. Lokonga broke through at Anderlecht during the time that Kompany was in charge of the side.
