Voetbalkrant are reporting that Aron Dønnum will be the new captain of Standard Liege for the 2023/2024 season. The 25-year-old Norwegian winger joined the club from Vålerenga in the summer of 2021, but returned on loan to the Oslo based club on loan in March of 2022. However, after returning to Liege he became a regular starter under Ronny Deila. In 69 games for the club, Dønnum has scored six goals and provided 11 assists for the club.
While he was playing for Vålerenga in Norway, Dønnum scored 27 goals and provided 16 assists in 96 games. His work rate out wide during the 2022/2023 season endeared the winger to the Standard fans who appear to be happy with the new captain.
Standard go into the 2023/2024 season with Deila, who has moved to Club Brugge. Carl Hoefkens, formerly of Club Brugge, has taken over. The side were also looking for a new captain after the 2022/2023 armband wearer Noe Dussene did not have his contract renewed.
