Arne Slot: Reaching Europa League last-16 ‘almost equivalent’ to reaching Conference League final

Arne Slot says that reaching the Europa League last-16 is almost as big an achievement as reaching the Conference League final last season for Feyenoord.

Feyenoord looked set to crash out of Europe with less than 30 minutes to go of their match with Lazio, sitting bottom of their group.

However, Santiago Gimenez then gave them the lead to catapult them to top spot and they hold on to finish there, meaning they advance immediately to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Speaking afterwards, Slot stated that was almost as big an achievement as when his team reached the final of the Conference League.

“Very special, very special,” he told ESPN.

“To be in the last sixteen of Europe as a club that finished third last year and the transfer summer as it has been, then now being in the last sixteen of Europe as Feyenoord … You also noticed how the fans enjoyed that.

“For me, it’s an almost equivalent achievement to reaching the Conference League final.”
