Arne Slot confirm Sebastian Szymanski returns from knee injury

Arne Slot has confirmed attacking midfielder Sebastian Szymanski returns to Feyenoord’s match selection for the home game against FC Groningen, ESPN reports

The Polish midfielder has recovered from a knee injury which saw him miss the last four Eredivisie matches for the league leaders.

Slot hinted at a return of Szymanski, 23, on Wednesday, who played his last game for Feyenoord at the end of January. In the game against FC Twente he was good for an assist, but he had to leave the field halfway. After a month of rehabilitation, the Pool trained fully with Feyenoord again this week and is match fit for the match against FC Groningen

“It doesn’t seem logical to me that he starts immediately, but he could at least get playing time,” Slot said at ESPN.

In recent weeks, Javairo Dilrosun has been in the place of attacking midfielder at Feyenoord but Slot believes he is best suited on the flanks.

“I think Javairo is better as a winger. He thinks so too and so do we. But he can also use the qualities he has as a winger on ten. He already had some very good dribbles against Fortuna. Because that is his greatest quality: accelerating with the ball at his foot.”

Szymanski has been a key figure for Feyenoord since joining on loan from Dynamo Moscow picking up six goals and four assists in 18 league appearances for the Dutch side.
