Anwar El Ghazi set to train with Jong Ajax shortly after being linked with Manchester United

According to De Telegraaf, Anwar El Ghazi will train with Jong Ajax in order to maintain his fitness. The Dutch winger is currently searching for a new club, having left PSV Eindhoven by mutual consent at the beginning of the month. This week, El Ghazi was linked with a move to Manchester United, but interest in the 28-year-old already seems to have vanished.

On Wednesday morning, El Ghazi reported to Sportpark De Toekomst, the training facility used by Ajax’s reserve team and youth squads. The former Lille, Aston Villa and Everton winger will maintain his fitness levels by training with Jong Ajax until a new club comes calling. The youth team currently play in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.

Anwar El Ghazi kicked off his professional career with Ajax in 2014. The two-time Netherlands international scored 23 goals and provided 28 assists in exactly 100 appearances for the Dutch giants. A move to Lille followed for the forward, and after two impressive seasons in the French top flight, he joined Aston Villa. El Ghazi scored 26 goals and provided 16 assists within 119 appearances for Villa. In 2022 he joined Everton on loan, before returning to the Netherlands to play for PSV.
