Antwerp’s Jean Butez on Nottingham Forest radar

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Jean Butez is on the shortlist for Nottingham Forest as the club hunt for a new goalkeeper. According to Tavolieri, Antwerp are keen to sell Butez in order to reinvest the money into the squad. This could mean that the sale of Butez would allow the side to bring in Calvin Stengs, who was on loan last season when they won their first title since 1957.

Burnley, after missing out on Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen to Brighton, were another side linked with the French goalkeeper.

Butez was part of the best defence in the Belgian league this season, with his side Antwerp winning the league on the final day with a late Toby Alderweireld equaliser against Genk. the 28-year-old French keeper began his career with Lille before joining their partner club Mouscron in Belgium on loan in 2017. After impressing, he made the move permanently in the summer of 2018. Two years later, Antwerp paid the now defunct side €1m to acquire the goalkeeper.

Last season, Butez kept 20 clean sheets in 40 league matches.
