Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Antwerp are working on a deal to sign KV Mechelen goalkeeper Yannick Thoelen. The experienced goalkeeper is out of contract in the summer and with Ortwin De Wolf solidified as Mechelen’s number one, the side are willing to allow him to leave this January. Antwerp want to sign the 34-year-old as a back-up to the talented Senne Lammens.
Thoelen, who has been injured this season, has made one appearance in the cup for Mechelen. Since joining the side in 2019 he has made 68 appearances, although most of these came during the first two seasons where he made 22 and 24 respectively. He has not hit double figures for the side since. Prior to playing for Mechelen the goalkeeper had spells with Gent and Lommel. It was at the latter that he played most of his football, making 144 appearances for the side, mainly in the second tier of Belgian football.
