Antwerp sign former Emmen man after stint in Russia

Antwerp have signed free agent wing-back Glenn Bijl. The 30-year-old has signed after his contract with Krylya Sovetov Samara expired this summer. He signs a one-year contract in Belgium, with an option for an additional year.

Bijl initially started his career after coming through the FC Groningen youth academy. The man capable as both a defender and midfielder made two appearances for the first team in the north. Then, after a loan spell at FC Dordrecht, he transferred to FC Emmen, where he played 129 matches.

In the summer of 2021, Bijl opted for a lucrative move to Russia. Playing for Krylya Sovetov, he made over a hundred appearances and not only became a regular starter but also regularly captained the side. His contract expired this summer, and Antwerpโ€™s technical director, Marc Overmars, seized the opportunity.

At Antwerp, Bijl will play with compatriots Vincent Janssen and Gyrano Kerk, who plays for Suriname.
