Antwerp put €22m price tag on Arthur Vermeeren to ward off interest

As reported by Voetbalkrant, Antwerp have put a €22m price tag on young talented midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. The Antwerp academy product is now under contract at the club until 2026, with sides such as Manchester United and Newcastle United reportedly interested in the teenager.

Following injuries to Alhassan Yusuf and Pieter Gerkens, the Antwerp teenager suddenly found himself as one of the only recognised central midfielders in the team. However, after his impressive performances, it is unlikely that the aforementioned Yusuf and Gerkens will be able to walk back into the team. Mark Van Bommel has been impressed with what he has seen from the youngster.

The 18-year-old has made 21 appearances for the side in all competitions this season, and has a chance at winning a cup winners medal with Antwerp through to the final against Mechelen. After their 5-0 win over the aforementioned Mechelen at the weekend, Antwerp are just 10 points behind leaders Genk, with the points to be halved at the end of the regular season.
