Antwerp manager Mark van Bommel believes Club Brugge are title favourites

Antwerp may be five points clear at the top of the Pro League after winning their first eight matches, but manager Mark van Bommel thinks Club Brugge are the title favourites.

Van Bommel has made the dream start to life in Belgium with Antwerp enjoying the perfect domestic record so far, getting 24 points out of a possible 24.

No other club has done so with Genk and Club Brugge on 19 points while Anderlecht and Union Saint-Gilloise have just 10 and 13 respectively.

Club Brugge have looked immensely impressive in Europe though, beating Bayern Leverkusen and Porto in the Champions League, thrashing the latter 4-0.

Pointing to those games, Van Bommel says they’re still title favourites.

“What did I think of Bruges? It is very impressive what they did in Porto,” he said as per Het Laatste Nieuws.

“That’s why I’ve been saying from the beginning that Club is the biggest title favourite. But no one believed me.”
