Antwerp in talks with former QPR midfielder

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Antwerp have had exploratory talks with former QPR midfielder Tjaronn Chery. The 35-year-old Suriname international is currently playing in the Eredivisie with NEC on loan from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. As reported yesterday, he wants to leave the club and play closer to the Netherlands. The report suggests that Chery is open to joining Antwerp given their proximity to the Netherlands.

In 12 Eredivisie games this season, Chery has scored four goals for NEC. The midfielder has had a varied career, playing for a handful of Dutch sides as well as teams in China and Turkey. He also spent two years with QPR in the Championship. In 61 games for the London side he scored 14 goals and provided seven assists. During his time in the Eredivisie he has played 144 games, scoring 36 goals and laying on 26 assists.

Antwerp are looking to restructure their side next season, with a number of players expected to leave. Head coach Mark van Bommel is also set to leave the club after two years in charge.
