Antwerp expel Radja Nainggolan indefinitely after midfielder caught smoking e-cigarette before Standard Liege clash

Royal Antwerp have today released a statement that experienced midfielder Radja Nainggolan has been expelled from the first team for an indefinite period of time. The club said that there had been a conversation between the midfielder and club officials about expected behaviour which led to the decision. In the statement the club said that there will be no further comment from them or the player.

The club has made the decision following two events, the first being the arrest of the player in Antwerp over a driving incident. The other came before the 3-0 defeat away at Standard Liege, where a picture surfaced of Nainggolan smoking an electronic cigarette in the dugout a few hours before the game.

The former Inter Milan, Roma and Cagliari midfielder has recently been dropped to the bench by manager Mark van Bommel. Antwerp currently sit in second place behind Genk, who they face at home next Sunday after their midweek game with KV Oostende.
