Antwerp look set to add Mahamadou Diawara to their squad. According to HLN, the 20-year-old central midfielder will join on loan from Lyon for the rest of the year, with the clubs having also agreed a purchase option as part of the deal. The fee appears to be €500k for the initial loan and then €3.5m to make the move permanent.
Diawara made his Lyon debut back in the 2023/2024 season, where he played 12 games across the league and domestic cup. Last season he played just four games for the side before being loaned out to fellow Ligue 1 side Le Havre in January. Diawara started just six of the 17 games he played in Ligue 1 across his time with Lyon and Le Havre, providing one assist.
With Antwerp, Diawara could get more playing time. The side do have some strong options in midfield with former Leicester man Dennis Praet. Alongside the Belgian, Malian midfielder Mahamadou Doumbia has been very impressive to start the Pro League season. The Great Old have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season.
