Antwerp CEO admits Arthur Vermeeren could leave in January and break Belgian transfer record

HLN are reporting that prior to the Champions League match against Barcelona, Antwerp CEO Sven Jacques admitted that there is a chance Arthur Vermeeren could leave in the January transfer window. Jacques revealed that interest in the teenager is growing every week, with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United having been reportedly interested int he summer.

The Great Old’s CEO was then asked about whether or not the eventual fee would break the Belgian transfer record, which currently sits at €36 for Charles de Ketelare in 2022 to AC Milan. Jacques said ‘If we sell it, it will definitely be at the right price. We’ll see whether he becomes the most expensive outgoing transfer in Belgium ever’.

Despite only being 18-years-old, Vermeeren has become one of the most talked about and anticipated midfielders in the Belgian Pro League. After helping Antwerp to their first title since 1957, expectations have been high about how far the midfielder can go in the game. In the Pro League this season he has played all 17 matches, scoring once and providing two assists. In the Champions League he has started all six games, scoring once and providing two assists.
