Antoni Milambo: the grounded Feyenoord starlet focusing on the here and now

Antoni Milambo has quickly caught the eye at Feyenoord this season and is considered one of the most promising players of his hometown academy’s generation. In the face of this, though, the 20-year-old remains remarkably level-headed.

The midfielder, who has scored six goals and assisted four in 36 games in all competitions this term, is keeping his aspirations focused on his development at Feyenoord and Jong Oranje.

Although some would like to see Milambo in the Dutch national team after his first real season as a starter at De Kuip, the player himself is not thinking about it yet. ELF Voetbal:

ā€œIt is not something that Milambo is concerned with. He mainly focuses on Jong Oranje when it comes to national football. He sees making his debut for national coach Michael Reiziger’s team as one of the most important milestones of this season.ā€

Speaking in an interview from the Hotel Oud London in Zeist, Milambo reflected on his first recent Jong Oranje appearances against Italy and Romania in March:

ā€œI feel good there. The first time was immediately enjoyable. It’s special how quickly I was welcomed by the group. A bond has been created with some of my fellow players, such as Noah Ohio and Ian Maatsen. After matches of Feyenoord or FC Utrecht and Aston Villa, the four of us FaceTime, including Gijvai ZechiĆ«l. I also spoke to Noah and Ian shortly after my goals in the Champions League. To be honest, I expected it to take longer for me to adapt to a new group.ā€
