Andries Noppert high on Ajax’s transfer wishlist after impressive World Cup display

Ajax are looking at the possibility of signing Andries Noppert in the January transfer market after an impressive number of performances during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, De Telegraaf reports.

Noppert, 28, is currently enjoying a second spell at SC Heerenveen where he is occupying the number one spot at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

But the former Foggia and Go Ahead Eagles goalkeeper has played any movement in the transfer window after asking about his future at the club he started his career at shortly after the Argentina defeat in Qatar.

“With a transfer I’m not busy right now,” the goalkeeper said shortly after the elimination by Argentina. “We have to see what will happen. I’ll let it come to me.”

The potential transfer could lead to 22-year-old Jay Gorter going out on loan to get some minutes under his belt. Gorter is not allowed to leave on a permanent basis with his contract due to run out in mid-2025 but could well go on and replace Noppert at Heerenveen.

The goalkeeper previously worked with coach Kees van Wonderen during his time at Go Ahead Eagles.
