Anderlecht turned down chance to sign Manchester United’s forgotten €40m midfielder

LDH have revealed that Anderlecht had the opportunity to sign Donny Van de Beek from Manchester United. The former Ajax midfielder joined the Red Devils for a deal around €40m back in the summer of 2020. However, he has struggled to settle in Manchester and be a regular starter for the side. In the second half of the 2021/2022 season, he spent some time on loan with Everton. He made just seven appearances, scoring once. Overall he has made 60 appearances for Manchester United, scoring twice.

While Anderlecht were looking for midfielders, they settled on other targets, such as Mats Rits and Thomas Delaney. They also signed Belgian international Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day. In the end, they decided against signing the former Ajax midfielder, even though the player was keen having recovered from an injurysustained during the 2022/2023 season.

It is now unclear what the future holds for the 26-year-old midfielder.
