Anderlecht looking to bring in Hákon Valdimarsson as long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel and Maxime Dupé

According to HLN, Anderlecht have set their sites on signing a new goalkeeper. Hákon Valdimarsson, the 22-year-old Icelandic international who plays for Swedish side IF Elfsborg, looks to be their new target. At the beginning of the season, it appeared that Maxime Dupé, the former Toulouse shot stopper, would be the sides number one. However, before the window closed the side brought in experienced Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel. The former Leicester City legend then replaced Dupé almost immediately to become the sides number one. With both in their 30s, it is not surprising that Anderlecht want to bring in a new younger goalkeeper.

In 29 league games for Elfsborg this season, Valdimarsson kept 13 clean sheets. The side narrowly missed out on winning the Allsvenskan title to Malmo, with both sides finishing level on points with 64. Malmo won out with a goal difference of 35 to Elsborg’s 33. However, Valdimarsson’s defence was the best in the league, conceding just 26 goals in 30 games.
