Anderlecht identify New York Red Bulls’ John Tolkin as potential replacement for Manchester City-bound Sergio Gomez

With Sergio Gomez set to leave for Manchester City, Anderlecht have identified New York Red Bulls’ John Tolkin as a potential replacement.

It was widely reported on Thursday night that Man City and Anderlecht have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gomez, with the Belgian club receiving around €15 million for the Spaniard.

As a result, they’re in need of a new left-back, and Sacha Tavolieri has reported that they’ve identified 20-year-old Tolkin as an ideal replacement.

The American has been an important player for New York Red Bulls in the past two seasons, starting the vast majority of their matches, playing as both a full-back in a back four and as a wing-back in a back five.

Signing him won’t be easy by any means, with Tavolieri stating that there are also clubs in the top divisions of France and Portugal that are interested in him.

It’s unclear whether he’s Anderlecht’s number one target or whether there are more names on their shortlist.
