Anderlecht extend head coach Brian Riemer until 2026

Anderlecht have announced that head coach Brian Riemer has signed a new deal with the club that will last until 2026. The Dane joined the side in the winter of 2022, signing a deal that lasted until the end of the 2023/2024 season. There had been rumours that if the side were not in the top six near by the international break then Riemer would be sacked. After seven games the side are now second in the league, with four wins, two draws and one loss.

The sides only loss came in the opening game against city rivals Union St Gilloise. Since then, the side have beaten defending champions Antwerp, while also drawing with Genk. However, they required a late equaliser from Anders Dreyer to rescue a point against bottom side Kortrijk last match day out.

Some fans on social media are already questioning the timing of the decision, given that there is still time left in the season and on the coach’s current deal. Prior to joining Anderlecht, Riemer was an assistant coach with Brentford.
