Cercle Brugge have had a tricky start to the season. The side are currently sat in 13th place with 11 points from 11 games. However, Onur Cinel, who was appointed in the summer, is not under pressure from the clubs chairman. In an interview with Krant van West-Vlaanderen, Thomas Tousseyn spoke about how the club is hoping to get back into the top eight eventually, while also pointing out that despite their current league position, they are only four points off of Genk in eighth.
On Cinel, the Cercle Brugge chairman said โThereโs not much to criticize about our football. Onur is an enthusiastic coach and a winnerโ. The Cercle Brugge squad remains very young, a hallmark of the side in recent years as they look for a clear identity as a team that gives youth a chance to develop. This was a successful blueprint until last season, when the club had to balance European and domestic football. Key players have also left in that time and their impact has begun to be felt. This is the case in defence, where there is not much experience.
Cinel and Cercle Brugge will be hoping that the next few weeks can bring a first win since the 23rd of August. They face an inform Zulte Waregem side before a cup game against Kortrijk during the week. They then play RAAL and OH Leuven back to back, games they will be targeting as chances to get three points. They can certainly take positives from their 2-2 draw with Genk last weekend.
