Amrabat: Veteran terminates contract with view to return to the Netherlands

According to reports from VoetbalPrimeur, Nordin Amrabat (37) has officially terminated his contract with AEK Athens. The winger is now a free agent and could look to return to the Netherlands after repeatedly hinting that he would like to return to the Eredivisie.

After making the switch from Saudi Al Nassr to Greece in the summer of 2021, the experienced Moroccan international Amrabat played 113 matches for AEK Athens, scoring 22 times.

Following the end of his three-and-a-half years of service, the club from the Greek capital released a statement: “The entire AEK family, especially chairman Marios Iliopoulos, would like to thank Nordin for his contribution. We wish him health and all the best for his career.”

The Naarden-born Amrabat has already stated several times that he would like to return to the Eredivisie. Speaking with ESPN in May, he said:

“I left here in January 2011. That is almost 13-and-a-half years. It is the right time to return. I am still good and hungry. At least, that is what I think.”
