Alieu Fadera set for AFCON debut as Gambia qualify for Cote d’Ivoire tournament

Alieu Fadera looks set to have a chance of making his AFCON debut as Gambia qualified for the upcoming tournament in the Cote d’Ivoire. Fadera was an unused substitute as the side drew 2-2 with Congo, with former Kortrijk striker Mohamed Badamosi scoring a late equaliser for the West African side. The striker, who left Kortrijk to join FK Cukaricki of Serbia in the summer, has since moved on to Al-Hazem on loan for the season.

Gambia qualified in second place behind Mali, with South Sudan finishing bottom of the group.

Fadera has only made one appearance for Gambia, but with the departure of Mike Tresor from club side Genk he should be set to stake a claim to be a starter by the time the tournament comes about. Since leaving relegated Zulte Waregem in the summer to join Genk, the 21-year-old has played seven games, scoring once. The versatile attacker can play on either wing or as a striker.
