Algeria’s Mohamed Amoura keeps up incredible scoring record in Belgian Pro League

Once again, Algerian forward Mohamed Amoura was on the scoresheet for league leaders Union St Gilloise at the weekend. The 23-year-old, who joined in the summer, scored the only goal of the game as Union beat KV Mechelen 1-0 in Brussels. The former Lugano striker has now scored an incredible 12 goals in 13 league games, pushing him into second in the scoring charts.

Togo’s Kevin Denkey still leads the way with 13, but he has played 18 games this season. Also aged just 23, Denkey and Amoura are setting up an all African affair for the league’s stop scorer race this season. However, Denkey will have a chance to edge even further ahead of Amoura in the new year. It is likely that, given his recent form, the Algerian will be included in the Fennec Foxes AFCON squad for the tournament in the Cote d’Ivoire. Denkey’s Togo did not manage to qualify, meaning Cercle Brugge will not be without their leading man while the tournament takes place.

Amoura is just another example of the incredible recruitment that has gone on at Union since the club was acquired by Brighton owner Tony Bloom. Despite losing key players every summer, the side always find a replacement ready to fill the void.
