Ajax’s injury woes continue with Edson Alvarez out due to illness

Ajax injury list woes continue to grow and frustrate head coach Alfred Schreuder with the news that Edson Alvarez is out due to illness, ESPN reports.

Alvarez, 25, was set to start in the KNVB second round tie against Den Bosch but the Mexican international is thought to have caught the illness earlier this week – bringing the injury list up to now 10 players.

It is not yet clear how long he will be out for and could well miss out on the Eredivisie clash against FC Twente this weekend too.

The former Club America midfielder joins a long list of Ajax teammates who are currently receiving treatment in the physio room.

Jurrien Timber, Ahmetcan Kaplan, Youri Regeer, Youri Baas, Mohammed Kudus, Florian Grillitsch, Steven Berghuis, Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey are all receiving treatment and facing spells on the sidelines for their respective injuries.

It is far from the ideal situation for Schreuder with so many key players out when they face title challengers FC Twente and league leader Feyenoord in the space of a week.
